Summer Program on Ward's Island

Camp Sunshine

Escape to the Islands! A fully accessible centre on Ward's Island offers respite for seniors and persons with disabilities. This year, "Camp Sunshine" runs from May through September 24th. Seniors are invited to join us for one day per week for 7 or 14 consecutive weeks.

During these fun-filled days seniors can expect to enjoy a mini vacation, make new friends, enjoy the great outdoors and participate in numerous activities:

  • singalongs
  • fitness
  • line dancing
  • shuffleboard
  • craft program
  • barbeques
  • tai chi
  • tours of the island in our two electric vehicles

For those who never had the opportunity to enjoy Camp, it is never too late to enjoy this warm and uplifting, bonding experience.

Our unique country-like setting on Ward's Island is invaluable to the many frail seniors who lack opportunities for a holiday or exposure to such a tranquil natural setting. The ferry ride across the harbour becomes part of the outdoor experience. In addition to the individuals who attend the Centre's programs, small groups of seniors from homes for the aged/nursing homes and shelters use us as a resource for much needed outdoor stimulation for their residents.
