Lesley* has been a proud supporter and participant of our Bleecker Street program since its inception. A single mother, she did what she could for her family when they arrived here in Canada; working double shifts and providing as much as she could. After years of hard work, she now has the opportunity to enjoy her spare time and finally relax. With her children now living out of town, she needed something to reconnect herself back into the community. When she learned of our programs, she was excited to be a part of Sunshine Centres.
Every Wednesday, Lesley waits at the door of the sunroom for our program to begin. She is eager to see her friends and to join the activities. It is what she looks forward to throughout the long days when she is by herself. Lesley smiles often and her warm personality shines through. But we know that she is very isolated with few family supports. The emotional support she gains from our staff and the other seniors, and the companionship she enjoys goes a long way in helping her to feel connected and cared about. Lesley brings a tremendous amount of positive energy and enthusiasm to our program. She has started to connect to her community in St. Jamestown, and greatly enjoys stopping to talk to her many new-found friends and neighbors.
