What do we do?

Sunshine Centres for Seniors offers programming to 460 Jarvis Street, a Toronto Community Housing Corporation building at the corner of Wellesley and Jarvis streets. The program is held in a spacious recreational room with large windows that overlook a patio and has a great view of the city. The programs at 460 Jarvis feature a range of tai chi, gentle exercises, dancing, films, a breakfast club and social, special featured programs and cooked lunches. Programs are free for all participants, but donations are more than welcome

Monday program: Mondays feature more visits from guest speakers, live entertainment, and instructors, such as Reiki, chair yoga, arts/crafts instructor, music, etc. Lunch offered on Monday is light, typically soup and a sandwich.

Friday program: Fridays feature more in-house programs such as game days, trivia, movies, travelogues, group discussions, etc Friday is our home-made lunch day – volunteers, participants and staff make a fresh and nutritious home-made meal for the group, often featuring their favourite family recipes. If seniors need special supports, we link them to community and City of Toronto services such as dental services, Ontario Hearing Society, and pharmacists.

  • 10:00am: morning social – welcoming everybody, having coffee and tea, open discussions on current events, horoscope reading, and morning announcements.
