As a new comer to our 460 Jarvis street program, Ming came to us a few months before the 2010 Christmas holidays. Her husband had passed away 3 months before her first visit with us. Living alone in the St. Jamestown community, she rarely went out after his death. With a language barrier with the rest of her neighbours it was difficult to interact with others. By chance, she was invited to our 460 Jarvis program by one of our members while grocery shopping.
Timid and shy on her first day, she found a place in our program with our mah-jong club. As she became more comfortable with the rest of the group, her interaction with everyone was evident; sharing food, making tea and coffee for other members. Ming greatly enjoys attending programs, and now leads a small group for Tai Chi with members she met at the program.
