35th Anniversary Events

It's the 35th anniversary of Sunshine Centres for Seniors this year. We are looking forward to making it a special year, with 35th anniversary celebrations at many of our special events.

Annual General Meeting, Tuesday April 19th

At the Annual General Meeting on Tuesday April 19th, after our wonderful luncheon, we will have special guests cutting the Anniversary Cake. Opening our meeting with a Reflection of the Past, will be a narrative illustrating the history of Sunshine Centres for Seniors by our past Executive Director, Margaret Moyles. Slide presentation by Susan Burton-Bowler.

Strawberry Festival Anniversary Party, Saturday July 23rd

Create a work of art for our Sunshine Centres for Seniors Arts & Craft Contest. The theme is "Sunshine Centres for Seniors at Ward's Island." You can use any medium: drawing, knitting, crocheting, painting, photography, or you can stage a play or skit. Other events: 35th Anniversay Student Reunion, coordinator Kristi Samuelson; the Rededication Ceremony of the Plaque for Buddy Ritchie, one of our founding members, coordinator Michael White.

Friends and Family BBQ, Wednesday August 27th

Throughout the history of Sunshine Centres for Seniors, there is a special connection to Wards Island. Tell us a story or write a poem, play or sing us a song with the theme "The last 35 years at Sunshine Centres for Seniors!" We want stories, serious and humorous.

By the end of this year with your help we would like to create a "memory book" and if any one out there has something special that you could share with us, we'd appreciate hearing from you. This book will contain a history of the early beginnings, one that chronicles members with lots of photographs. Everything we do through the year will carry the flavor of the past thirty-five years. It will be a great year - a lot of work and a lot of fun. Have a great time celebrating!
